Inmates and jail reform

Your editorial “Holes in Our Jails” (Nov. 22) echoed the thoughts many people have had regarding proposed solutions for improving Los Angeles’ jails, including architectural redesign and systemic reform. Noticeably missing are suggestions for educational programs designed to encourage tolerance, promote respect, support forgiveness and teach empathy for others. The people inside the jails cannot be forgotten.
