Rebels killed two pro-Moscow police officers and wounded five others in the Russian republic of Chechnya, local media reported.
News agencies said rebels opened fire on police checking houses in the village of Terskoye just outside the provincial capital, Grozny, killing two and wounding two more.
In a separate incident, three servicemen were injured in an explosion in the village of Avtury in the Shali region.
Russian officials say Chechnya, where separatists have resisted Russian rule since the collapse of the Soviet Union, is becoming more stable, but rebel attacks occur daily.
