From Times wire reports

For the first time, there are more than 1 million owner-occupied homes in the United States worth $1 million or more, according to U.S. Census Bureau statistics published late last month.

Once a symbol of unusual wealth, million-dollar dwellings now seem like a dime a dozen in some places. Los Angeles County has an estimated 104,000 of them. There are roughly 46,000 in Orange County.

The Census Bureau’s 2004 American Community Survey found 1,034,386 homes worth at least $1 million in 2004, compared with 595,441 in 2002
