Runoff Expected in Presidential Race
From Times Wire Reports
A pro-free market lawmaker and Warsaw’s mayor seemed headed for a runoff in Poland’s presidential election after neither appeared to have gained 50% of the vote, according to preliminary results and an exit poll.
With 91.5% of the ballots counted, 36% of voters had backed Donald Tusk, a pro-business candidate, and 33% had voted for Warsaw Mayor Lech Kaczynski. If the results hold, the two former activists with the anti-communist Solidarity movement would be forced into a runoff Oct. 23.
