From Times Wire Reports

St. Louis agreed to pay 25 homeless people $80,000 to settle a lawsuit accusing police of harassing and unjustly jailing them to clear downtown over the Fourth of July weekend last year.

“This agreement makes it clear that sweeps violate the law and violate human dignity,” said Washington University law professor Steven Gunn, a lawyer for the plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs will split $30,000, and $20,000 will go to services for the homeless. The rest will cover legal costs.
