IN Mark Swed’s survey of Mozart violin sonatas [“The Sonata, Unplugged,” Oct. 9], he says, “the recordings by Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zuckerman and Isaac Stern are to be avoided.”
These are three of the greatest artists of our time and their recordings of these works are the best ones to choose. They bring a lyricism that the others cannot compete with.
Obviously, Mark Swed has some kind of strange agenda he is trying to fulfill by recommending only obscure music and musicians. I suspect he does not even listen to the music and bases his recommendations solely on the program notes.
Please hire someone who actually listens to the music and has decent taste.
