Families Demand That Bodies Be Released
Hundreds of black-clad people gathered outside the prosecutors’ office in the southern Russian city of Nalchik, demanding the release of the bodies of relatives killed during a raid by alleged Islamic extremists. Russia does not return bodies of people believed to be terrorists to their families.
Some in the crowd alleged that their relatives had been unfairly identified as militants.
The demand came three days after police and government buildings were attacked in Nalchik, sparking fighting that killed at least 139 people, including 94 alleged attackers.
