President to Visit North Korea Next Week
Chinese President Hu Jintao will visit North Korea next week ahead of a new round of international talks aimed at persuading the isolated country to give up its nuclear weapons.
Hu’s visit to North Korea on Friday would be the first by a top Chinese leader since 2001.
Talks held last month in Beijing ended with a promise by Pyongyang to give up its nuclear program in exchange for aid and a security guarantee. But North Korea also has demanded a nuclear reactor to generate energy before dismantling its atomic projects.
