A disgraceful endorsement

Re “Their views, their dues,” editorial, Oct. 16

Proposition 75 is not about giving union members more rights; federal law already assures anyone can opt out of making political donations. Proposition 75 just adds enormous administrative costs that will likely remove any effective political voice for those who provide a public service in California.

Unions account for barely $5 of every $100 spent on lobbying in Sacramento, and corporations outspend unions by a wide margin in most elections as well. Under Proposition 75, that gap would make the Grand Canyon look small.

Gov. Schwarzenegger and his wealthiest corporate donors want to push unions out of the political process because they want no opposition to their wish list of stripping away our most basic healthcare, environmental and workplace-safety protections. It’s disgraceful to see The Times sign on to that agenda.
