A Huntington Beach man who raped a woman in her apartment complex two years ago was sentenced Friday to 36 years to life in prison.

Allen George Plumb, 20, sexually assaulted and raped a 24-year-old woman, also of Huntington Beach, in a stairwell Aug. 4, 2003.

“He deserved his sentence,” said Senior Deputy Dist. Atty. Dan Hess, who prosecuted the case. “For him to attack her in broad daylight in a pretty public place was a horrible crime.”

The woman had been washing clothes for a trip to Catalina Island that day. She lived a couple of blocks from Plumb’s father.

In an effort to prevent leaving his DNA at the scene, Plumb had shaved his pubic hair and packed condoms, which he did not use, Hess said. He also had a pellet gun.

Plumb’s friends turned him in to police when they suspected that the robbery he was bragging about was actually a rape. He was arrested 12 days after the attack, Hess said.

A jury convicted Plumb in 2004 of forcible rape, sodomy and oral copulation, kidnapping to commit rape, sexual penetration and robbery with a deadly weapon.
