The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kenya and Kuwait:

Mark P. Adams, 24, of Morrisville, N.C.; sergeant, Marine Corps Reserve. Adams was killed Oct. 15 when an improvised explosive device detonated near him during combat in Saqlawiyah, Iraq, west of Fallouja. He was assigned to the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force Augmentation Command Element, Marine Corps Reserve at Camp Lejeune, N.C. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was attached to the 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Norman W. Anderson III, 21, of Parkton, Md.; lance corporal, Army. Anderson was killed Wednesday in a suicide car bombing while on patrol in Karabilah, Iraq, near the Syrian border. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Daniel D. Bartels, 22, of Huron, S.D.; specialist, Army. Bartels died Wednesday of non-combat-related injuries in Mosul, Iraq. He was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team at Ft. Wainwright, Alaska.

Samuel M. Boswell, 20, of Elkridge, Md.; specialist, Army National Guard. Boswell was among three guardsmen killed Oct. 14 when a tractor-trailer struck the rear of their Humvee, starting a fire and causing ammunition to detonate in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 243rd Engineer Company, Army National Guard in Baltimore.

Daniel Scott R. Bubb, 19, of Grottoes, Va.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Bubb was killed Monday by small-arms fire in Rutbah, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, his unit was attached to the 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Bernard L. Ceo, 23, of Baltimore; specialist, Army National Guard. Ceo was among three guardsmen killed Oct. 14 when a tractor- trailer struck the rear of their Humvee, starting a fire and causing ammunition to detonate in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 243rd Engineer Company, Army National Guard in Baltimore.

Brian R. Conner, 36, of Baltimore; sergeant, Army National Guard. Conner was among three guardsmen killed Oct. 14 when a tractor-trailer struck the rear of their Humvee, starting a fire and causing ammunition to detonate in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 243rd Engineer Company, Army National Guard in Baltimore.

Joseph Cruz, 22, of Whittier; private first class, Army. Cruz died Oct. 16 in Bagram, Afghanistan, north of Kabul, of non-combat-related injuries suffered a day earlier in an accident in the nearby village of Organ-E. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Infantry Regiment in Vicenza, Italy.

Tommy I. Folks Jr., 31, of Amarillo, Texas; staff sergeant, Army National Guard. Folks died Wednesday in Baghdad of injuries suffered a day earlier when several improvised explosive devices detonated near his Humvee in Iskandariya, south of the capital. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 142nd Infantry Regiment, 56th Brigade Combat Team, 36th Infantry Division, Army National Guard in Amarillo, Texas.

Lucas A. Frantz, 22, of Tonganoxie, Kan.; specialist, Army. Frantz was killed Tuesday in a sniper attack while on patrol in Mosul, Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team at Ft. Wainwright, Alaska.

Kendall K. Frederick, 21, of Randallstown, Md.; specialist, Army Reserve. Frederick was killed Wednesday when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Tikrit, Iraq. He was assigned to the 983rd Engineer Battalion, Army Reserve in Monclova, Ohio.

Chad R. Hildebrandt, 22, of Springer, N.M.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Hildebrandt was killed Monday by small-arms fire during combat in Rutbah, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton. Arthur A. Mora Jr., 23, of Pico Rivera; sergeant, Army. Mora was among three soldiers killed Wednesday when their Humvee was struck by enemy indirect fire while on patrol in Balad, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Fabricio Moreno, 26, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; petty officer third class, Navy. Moreno was killed Oct. 14 in a single-vehicle accident in Manda Bay, Kenya. He was assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 3 in Port Hueneme, Calif. As part of Operation Enduring Freedom, Moreno was deployed as part of a Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa construction team.

Russell H. Nahvi, 24, of Arlington, Texas; specialist, Army. Nahvi was among three soldiers killed Wednesday when their Humvee was struck by enemy indirect fire while on patrol in Balad, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Paul J. Pillen, 28, of Keystone, S.D.; chief warrant officer, Army National Guard. Pillen died Monday of non-combat-related injuries in Salwa, Kuwait. He was assigned to the 249th Aviation Company, Army National Guard in Rapid City, S.D.

Christopher M. Poston, 20, of Glendale, Ariz.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Poston was killed Monday in a nonhostile vehicle accident in Hit, Iraq, on the Euphrates River. He was assigned to the Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Richard T. Pummill, 27, of Cincinnati; staff sergeant, Marine Corps. Pummill was among three Marines killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Jose E. Rosario, 20, of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; specialist, Army. Rosario was among three soldiers killed Wednesday when their Humvee was struck by enemy indirect fire while on patrol in Balad, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Andrew D. Russoli, 21, of Greensboro, N.C.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Russoli was among three Marines killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Steven W. Szwydek, 20, of Warfordsburg, Pa.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Szwydek was among three Marines killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
