Dino and Noah and creationism as a cartoon

Share

Re “Adam, Eve and T. Rex,” Column One, Aug. 27

Now that young-Earth theoreticians have established that Noah’s menagerie included dinosaurs, the real magnitude of Noah’s accomplishments in waste management and disposal become apparent. Come to think of it, his food processing, storage and distribution procedures, before refrigeration, would also be edifying. Too bad he didn’t preserve his innovative technologies for the future benefit of mankind.

The so-called creationism (faith) vs. evolutionism (science) debate springs from anachronistic, absolutist-type thinking coupled with a deplorable ignorance of the Bible. The God I worship is sufficiently intelligent and powerful to have created an evolving universe. That does it for me. Thinking about Noah’s ark outfitted with two of every type of dinosaur along with two of every other animal known to us bespeaks nothing more than an overactive imagination disconnected from common sense as well as intelligence.

A group called Answers in Genesis is trying to convert children to young-Earth creationism by telling them that dinosaurs were on Noah’s ark. I have reviewed various translations of the Bible and could find no references to dinosaurs in Genesis. Maybe the problem is in the English translation. What is the Hebrew word for “dinosaur”?

Has scientific thought come so far only to be discarded by growing religious fervor? Creationists are their own best argument against evolution.

Your constant, and now front-page, coverage of this nonsensical notion of intelligent design would be funny if it were not so dangerous. You give the “debate” credibility simply by covering it as news.
