Latinos in the military

Share

The article “Latino Groups to Fight Military Recruiting on Campuses” (Aug. 30) infers that Latinos are suffering disproportionate casualties in the global war on terror. This is not so. The fact is that in the 2000 American census, 12.5% of the U.S. population identified itself as Latino. The active-duty Army is 10.3% Latino, and 9.4% of the soldiers who gave their lives in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom were Latino. Americans of every ethnicity will continue to answer our nation’s call to duty. We grieve equally for every casualty.
