Schwarzenegger and his ballot decisions

Share

Re “Gov. All but Vows to Run,” Sept. 15

I can’t wait to see how Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and his party handle a true election campaign, one in which every opponent will attack his history as a womanizer.

It was absolutely appalling how Republicans, who earlier praised the impeachment of Bill Clinton, ignored their moral compasses and pushed for the election of this dog.

These people who preach that character is everything -- and skill, intellect and leadership must take a backseat to their personal moral beliefs -- will surely sound a different horn in attempting to dilute Schwarzenegger’s atrocious past. Perhaps Clinton should run against him. Oh, I’d love to see how that one runs. Clinton would be the saint in such a contest.

Schwarzenegger was quoted as saying, “This, what we are doing here, is much bigger than me” (Sept. 13). Unfortunately, it isn’t. There is no issue on the November ballot that is too critical to wait until the next scheduled election next spring. The reason for the election is to satisfy an ego and try to gain political advantage. In an era of tight budgets, taxpayers are being asked to satisfy an ego to the tune of about $80 million at current estimates. It will probably be more. That doesn’t sound like any kind of fiscal responsibility that I know of.
