Firefighters Injured When Wall Collapses
Two firefighters were injured Friday when a wall collapsed as they were battling a blaze at an abandoned house, officials said.
One firefighter broke his right leg, his left arm and his left wrist, said Brian Humphrey, a fire department spokesman.
The other suffered first-degree burns to his chin and left ear.
Both were taken to a downtown hospital, where they were in fair condition, according to Humphrey.
Firefighters were dispatched at 4:29 a.m. to the Victorian-style home in the West Adams area southwest of downtown. The home was boarded up.
The two firefighters were extending a hose when a wall and part of the roof collapsed, briefly trapping them, Humphrey said.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
