That sucking sound

Share

THANK you for pointing out the irony in Steve Wynn sucking new shows away from touring [“Rescripting the Strip,” Sept. 11] while pointing out that his own theater appreciation grew from seeing shows when he was in college in Philadelphia.

His responses of “What about me?” and “There are no poor people in Pasadena” are arrogant and selfish beyond belief. To build an audience, one cannot simply have all shows play only in New York and in Las Vegas. Young people whose parents took them to see touring companies in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix, St. Louis, Chicago, Toronto, Detroit, etc., are the future Broadway (and even Las Vegas) theatergoers. As a parent and a teacher, I shudder to think of the future for the American theater when it becomes the special privilege of a wealthy few.
