Heat Repels Rescuers as 6 Die in House Fire

Four children and two adults were killed in a house fire in Gary as heat drove back relatives and neighbors who tried to break windows to reach the victims, authorities said.
Two adults and three children ages 1 to 12 were pronounced dead shortly after the blaze. An 11-year-old boy died at a hospital.
The blaze was sparked by smoking materials, Gary fire investigator Norman Roby said.
