Picking up the tab for Katrina

Re “Senators Fume at White House Disdain for Katrina Healthcare Plan,” Sept. 29

I can’t believe that there is even an issue with our elected politicians over money to rehabilitate the families and businesses that are critical to bring American citizens back to normal living conditions. We send billions of dollars and our military personnel to Iraq with a great loss of life to our young people and no end in sight. We need to support the rebuilding of our own people, no questions asked.

Is there some reason why the U.S. government cannot sell bonds to cover the cost of hurricane disasters? War bonds worked before, didn’t they? What’s the matter with reviving an old tradition?
