Special Election Planned to Fill DeLay’s Seat
A special election to replace Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas) will be held in November -- on the same day as the regular election -- unless DeLay resigns this week, Texas Gov. Rick Perry said in Austin.
DeLay, former House majority leader, said this week that he was quitting Congress but would not leave until June because of unfinished legislative business.
If the regular and special elections are held on the same day, and there are two different winners, the winner of the special election will serve only until January 2007.
