Egg heads

It doesn’t get much more decadent than eggs Benedict topped with lots of luscious hollandaise -- whether the classic recipe or one of myriad variations.

Ned’s

This chill little diner in the NoHo arts district does a pretty traditional Benedict called eggs Magnolia. Ned’s Benedict, on the other hand, has no ham. Instead, it contains jack cheese, sliced tomato, avocado, poached eggs and hollandaise. Eggs Florentine with spinach is yet another option. Like it hot? Choose from more than a dozen fiery bottled sauces.

M Cafe de Chaya

The wild Scottish salmon Benedict at this sunny, casual eatery (sister to the Chaya restaurants) starts with grilled sourdough. This gets topped with a tofu scramble stained yellow with turmeric to resemble eggs, steamed kale, some of that salmon and creamy soy hollandaise.

Mirabelle

In addition to a classic Benedict, this Sunset Strip oldie but goodie does a variation called eggs Diamond Jim during weekend brunch. Instead of ham, this one is made with filet mignon and spinach. Eggs Blackstone subs sliced tomato and crisp bacon for the ham. There’s also a smoked salmon Benedict. They all come with hollandaise, and since you’re being bad, you might as well be very bad and have hash browns.

Omelette Parlor

Though the specialty here is omelets, this popular spot does a respectable Benedict as well. Vegetarians can opt for the California Benedict: a wheat-nut muffin painted with sun-dried tomato and basil pesto and topped with avocado, poached egg and, of course, hollandaise.

Taste

The luxe take on eggs Benedict at this stylish, year-old neighborhood bistro, which recently began weekend brunch, begins with toasted brioche. The tender, buttery bread is topped with Dungeness crab cakes, poached eggs, hollandaise and a scattering of chives. Potatoes flecked with rosemary are served alongside.
