Five Killed in Grenade Attacks in Kashmir

At least eight grenade attacks blamed on separatists killed five people and injured 30 in Srinagar, the summer capital of India’s Jammu and Kashmir state, police said.

The victims, three women and two men, were civilians who died of their injuries at a hospital, said Mushtaq Ahmad, a police officer.

The attacks targeted police patrols, the main bus station and a promenade frequented by tourists and lined with hotels and restaurants.

A local news agency, Current News Service, said four Islamic rebel groups had claimed responsibility.
