Spring Storm Brings Dust to Beijing

From Times Wire Reports

A sandstorm swept into Beijing, leaving skies hazy and the city blanketed by film of ochre-colored dust -- an annual rite of spring in the country’s north.

It’s “as if the desert has crawled to Beijing overnight,” the official New China News Agency quoted resident Zhang Rui as saying after the storm, which hit the region of Inner Mongolia over the weekend, moved southeast into the capital.

Dust from the spring sandstorms recently clouded the skies over the Korean peninsula, and has been known to drift as far as the U.S. West Coast.
