Mayoral Summit Tackles Gun Issue
The mayors of 13 U.S. cities gathered at a summit in New York aimed at purging the streets of illegal guns, with organizers saying the federal government is not doing enough to solve the problem.
“If the leadership won’t come from Congress or from the White House, it will have to come from us,” said New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, who led the summit with Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino.
The mayors gathered to exchange ideas and promote law enforcement cooperation among their cities. The other attendees were from Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; Dallas; Milwaukee; Seattle; Providence, R.I.; Hartford, Conn.; Trenton, N.J.; Jersey City, N.J.; Buffalo, N.Y.; and Jackson, Miss.
