Northwest Airlines Corp. has asked Judge Allan Gropper, who is overseeing its bankruptcy case, to block a possible strike by its flight attendants, the airline said.

The Assn. of Flight Attendants on Monday threatened to strike as early as Aug. 15 after the airline terminated the workers’ contract and imposed new terms that grant the airline $195 million in labor savings. The termination, which had court approval, came after the flight attendants rejected a labor agreement Monday.

A hearing on the matter is scheduled for Wednesday.
