Solve smog problem by reducing global warming

Re “Clinton Unveils Global Warming Initiative,” Aug. 2

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is correct that it’s time to look at global warming not only as an international problem but as a local problem as well. I was in L.A. this summer, and the smog can be very unhealthy. With global warming comes more smog and bad air-quality days, like the ones during the recent heat wave. Solving the smog problem in L.A. and other U.S. cities should include steps to reduce global warming emissions as well as smog-forming pollution. To improve the environment and health of our cities, we should support efforts to reduce global warming by Villaraigosa and other mayors and encourage our national leaders to do the same.
