Huddleston Gets Second Win of Season

Ten minutes before qualifying began Saturday night, Tim Huddleston found a problem that had plagued his Chevy Monte Carlo since a May 20 collision. He made the necessary adjustments, and that led to his first victory since Irwindale Speedway’s late model division season opener April 15.

Huddleston said his crew moved the mounting brackets about two inches to the right, which realigned a sway bar that had been causing problems.

Huddleston posted the third-fastest qualifying time, then passed pole-sitter Michael Wright on the sixth lap and kept the lead for the rest of the 40-lap race on the half-mile track.

Tom Smith won the figure 8 division, his fifth victory in the season’s seven races. Jesse James, host of Discovery Channel’s “Monster Garage” series and the husband of actress Sandra Bullock, was knocked out on the opening lap when his car broke an A arm.
