SKATEBOARDING

* What happened Saturday: Elissa Steamer, who turned 31 on July 31, held off a couple of youngsters again to win the women’s street finals inside the Velodrome at the Home Depot Center. Lauren Perkins, 17, of Huntington Beach finished a close second to the defending and three-time champion from San Francisco, and Lacey Baker, 14, of Covina finished third, making her the youngest women’s street medalist in the X Games -- a position previously held by Perkins. Last year, Steamer defeated 16-year-olds Evelien Bouilliart and Marissa Del Santo to win the title.

* Today’s finals: Danny Way is two for two with two gold medals in the event he created, big air, and figures to lead the aerial assault against a field that includes last year’s bronze medalist, Andy MacDonald, and Bucky Lasek, who took third Thursday in vert. Last year’s runner-up, Pierre-Luc Gagnon, is out because of an injury.

BMX

* What happened Saturday: Scotty Cranmer won a watered-down park competition, landing a double back flip 360 and a front flip flair in a run that scored 91.66 points. Cranmer, the silver medalist last year, beat Morgan Wade, who scored 90, and Daniel Dhers, who scored 89.66. Dave Mirra and Ryan Nyquist, who have combined to win the event nine of the last 10 years, including the last four, were both injured in practice and did not compete. Mirra, the two-time defending champion and seven-time winner of the event, suffered a lacerated liver Wednesday and Nyquist, the champion in 2002 and ‘03, sprained his knee Friday.

* Today’s finals: Big air makes its X Games debut, and its field is is also weakened by the injury to Mirra, who has a record 20 medals in the games, and Nyquist, who finished second in the freestyle dirt finals on Thursday. The favorite is Chad Kagy, who finished first in the vert finals and second in the vert best trick final on Friday.

MOTO X

* What happened Saturday: Matt Buyten, who lost a thrilling jump-off with Jeremy McGrath two years ago in the Moto X step-up competition to finish with the silver medal, won the gold this year when McGrath clipped the crossbar at 23 feet. Buyten was the only rider to make it through three rounds in the event, clearing a height of 23 feet on his first attempt. McGrath and Brian Deegan were eliminated after clearing 21 feet, but failing at 23. Deegan twice clipped the bar with his front wheel on the way up, and McGrath twice clipped the bar with his rear wheel on the way down.

* Today’s finals: Doug Henry was a surprise winner of the 2005 supermoto race, but is probably a bigger threat this year. However, the field is loaded, including 2006 AMA supermoto leader Jeff Ward, 2005 AMA supermoto champion Cassidy Anderson, seven-time supercross champion McGrath, 2005 X Games bronze medalist Chad Reed and Travis Pastrana. The freestyle event, which began Saturday, concludes at the Home Depot Center. Advancing to the finals, where each rider will make two runs, are Pastrana, who leads with a score of 92.20, followed by Mike Mason with 90.20, Adam Jones with 89.40, Jim McNeil with 88.60 and Mat Rebeaud with 87.40.

RALLY CAR

* What happened Saturday: Pastrana and navigator Christian Edstrom won the gold medal in the inaugural race when Colin McRae flipped his Subaru about 100 yards from the finish line. It was the second gold medal of the games for Pastrana and his seventh overall. McRae, the 1995 World Rally Champion, said his rollover cost him and his navigator, Nicky Grist, about 1 1/2 seconds. Still, they finished the ninth “Super Special” stage in 1 minute 57.11 seconds, but it wasn’t enough to hold off Pastrana and Edstrom’s 1:56.49, which gave them a total time of 12:02.19. McRae and Grist finished in 12:02.71. Subaru swept the top four positions.
