Ex-Trooper Gets Prison Term
A former Nevada state trooper was sentenced Tuesday to two to 12 years in state prison for an on-duty crash that killed four people and badly injured a pregnant teen.
Joshua Corcran, 28, who pleaded guilty in June to five counts of felony reckless driving, apologized to the surviving victim and her family moments before he was handcuffed and taken into custody.
“From the bottom of my heart, I’m truly sorry your family members were taken from you,” Corcran said.
Clark County District Judge Valerie Adair drew gasps from the crowded courtroom as she rejected a state Parole and Probation recommendation that would have given Corcran five years’ probation and a year in county jail.
“It is easy to send bad men to prison. It is a whole different thing to send good men to prison,” the judge said, addressing Corcran.
Authorities said Corcran was speeding home for dinner at 113 mph when his cruiser hit the Cadillac on Interstate 15.
