Tenet Healthcare Corp. said its second-quarter loss widened to $398 million because of spending on litigation that has dominated discussion about the nation’s second-largest hospital operator.

The company posted a loss of 85 cents a share, compared with $33 million, or 7 cents a share, a year earlier.

Tenet said the loss included litigation and investigation costs of 98 cents a share.

Revenue was $2.2 billion, in line with what analysts were expecting and up from $2.14 billion a year earlier.
