* Linn Energy, a Pittsburgh-based oil and natural gas exploration company, said it bought the Brea Olinda oil field in Orange County for $291 million from Blacksand Energy of Houston. The field includes 270 wells and contains proven reserves of 31.3 million barrels of oil equivalent.

* John C. McKeon has been named president and chief executive of Los Angeles Newspaper Group, which publishes the Daily News and seven other Southern California dailies. McKeon, most recently vice president for marketing at Knight Ridder Inc. in San Jose, is a former executive of the Los Angeles Times and sister paper Newsday.
