Nigerian troops stormed a riverside slum in the southern oil capital of Port Harcourt, shooting sporadically and forcing residents to flee, local radio reported.

The raid followed a government order for troops to use force against militants who have kidnapped more than a dozen foreign oil workers this month.

Troops were “moving from house to house,” Rhythm FM radio in Port Harcourt reported.
