Kia Motors Corp., South Korea’s second-largest automaker, named BongGou Lee as president and chief executive of its U.S. unit, replacing Jong Hoon Lee in what the company said Tuesday was a planned succession.

BongGou Lee, 57, had been chief operating officer for management and administration at affiliate Hyundai Motor Co., Kia said. Jong Hoon Lee, 57, headed the U.S. unit since 2002 and would return to Kia headquarters in Seoul to become vice president of overseas sales coordination.

“This is a standard rotation,” said Alex Fedorak, a spokesman for Kia Motors America in Irvine.
