From Times Wire Reports

Crews sprayed pesticides and cleared stagnant water around the capital, Kingston, in an effort to contain Jamaica’s first malaria outbreak in 40 years.

Authorities have confirmed 43 cases of malaria since the outbreak began in November, Health Minister Horace Dalley said. There have been no reported deaths.

The outbreak prompted the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to advise travelers to take antimalarial medicine if they planned to spend the night in Kingston.
