Torso found in ocean near Oxnard
Part of a badly decomposed body was discovered early Friday off Hollywood Beach near Oxnard, authorities said.
The portion of torso from just above the waist to the lower legs had been in the water so long that the gender is uncertain, said Capt. Ron Nelson of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
Craig Stevens, a senior deputy medical examiner, said it could take months to identify the body. But he said he hopes that muscle tissue around the waist area will allow a DNA profile of the victim to be developed.
Meanwhile, investigators will review missing person’s files and contact family members to help in the identification process.
