Teen takes plea deal in bomb plot
An 18-year-old pleaded no contest to conspiracy and possession of bomb-making ingredients Thursday for his role in planning a Valentine’s Day attack on Quartz Hill High School.
Johnny Alvarez Casas is scheduled to be sentenced to five years in prison Jan. 18. He and a 16-year-old boy were arrested last December after a student reported them to school officials. The two obtained bomb-making instructions from the Internet and planned to shoot students at the Antelope Valley school in February, prosecutors said.
A hearing is pending for the juvenile, who remains in custody.
