Comment is found way out of bounds

SHAME on the Los Angeles Times for the photo caption accompanying a shot of Jamie Lynn Spears at the “Charlotte’s Web” premiere [The Party Page, Dec. 17]. Speculation surrounding a 15-year-old girl’s undergarments is something that we might expect from a sleazy tabloid, but was highly inappropriate and questionable for a reputable newspaper such as The Times. Not only was your caption creepy in its comment on a minor, but also unfair to Ms. Spears, who has never publicly conducted herself in any way that would invite disrespect. It was a cheap shot at a child.
