Two women were killed and four children injured when their tent was struck by artillery fired by U.S. forces in Afghanistan, two Pakistani officials said.

The strike in the North Waziristan region occurred as U.S. forces battled suspected militants in Afghanistan’s Khowst province, the Pakistani officials said.

Lt. Mike Cody, a spokesman for the U.S. military in Afghanistan, said troops were returning fire from the Pakistani side.
