Mubarak Seeks to Extend Terms of Allies
From Times Wire Reports
President Hosni Mubarak has asked for a two-year extension of the terms of thousands of political allies in local governments. Approval of the move was seen as all but certain.
Local council terms were to have expired today, and by law elections were to be scheduled within 60 days.
“They are trying to block further gains for us. Why else would they postpone?” said Essam Mukhtar, a member of parliament linked to the opposition Muslim Brotherhood.
