2 People Slain as Fare Dispute Leads to Rioting

An argument over a rickshaw fare sparked a clash in Bangladesh that left two men dead and 250 people injured, police and witnesses said.

Riot police were deployed in Habiganj district, 75 miles northeast of the capital, Dhaka.

About 5,000 villagers attacked one another with sticks, machetes and fishing spears, said police, who used tear gas to disperse the crowd. Two elderly men died at the scene.
