The ABC cameraman who was injured in a roadside bombing in Iraq last month was released from the hospital Thursday and is returning home to France for further treatment.

Doug Vogt, who suffered head wounds when the Iraqi personnel carrier he and anchor Bob Woodruff were riding in was hit by an explosive device on Jan. 29, checked out of the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., and will undergo rehabilitation near his home in the south of France, ABC News President David Westin said.

Woodruff, whose injuries were more severe, remains hospitalized and mildly sedated. However, doctors report that they are impressed with his strength, Westin said, adding that Woodruff’s wife Lee told him that her husband reacts to the sound of his family’s voice. He may be transferred to a medical facility in the New York area in the coming weeks.
