Rutgers Wins Big East by Beating Connecticut

Cappie Pondexter scored 26 points and No. 6 Rutgers won its second consecutive Big East regular-season championship with a 48-42 victory over No. 7 Connecticut on Monday night in Piscataway, N.J.

The Scarlet Knights (24-3, 16-0) finished undefeated in the Big East for the first time in the 11 years they have been a member and earned the top seeding in the conference tournament, which begins Saturday in Hartford, Conn.

Rutgers limited the Huskies (26-4, 14-2) to five field goals and 12 points in the second half and one point in the final 11:38.

No. 20 Louisiana Tech 55, Idaho 40 -- The visiting Lady Techsters (22-4, 14-1 Western Athletic Conference) put together a 13-2 run late in the first half to lead by 10 at halftime and went on to record their 11th consecutive victory. Emily Faurholt, the WAC’s leading scorer, was limited to a career-low five points for Idaho (8-18, 4-11).
