An impeachment double standard

Re “Is Clinton’s history in Bush’s future?” Opinion, Dec. 30

Rosa Brooks and others have been suggesting a number of grounds on which President Bush might be impeached. But what none of them seem to be considering is that should Bush be removed, Vice President Dick Cheney would become president. Surely, they cannot be thinking this would be an improvement.

So let me get this straight: Bush lies and leads us to war, lies about the weapons of mass destruction, is able to act faster with disasters outside the U.S. but still can’t get the Katrina fiasco settled, signs away public lands for oil drilling and mining, and illegally trounces the 4th Amendment by wiretapping. But Clinton was impeached for lying about sex?

I guess we know now who really owns this country.
