Gusty Winds, Drought Feed More Than 20 Fires

A fast-moving wildfire near Meeker that burned about 100 acres was among more than 20 wildfires that burned across Oklahoma, fueled by drought conditions and gusty winds. Texas firefighters battled wildfires in eight counties.
Two volunteer firefighters at the Meeker fire were slightly injured after being thrown from the back of firetrucks fleeing the flames.
One of the largest fires, near Sayre in western Oklahoma, burned 1,000 acres; two separate 300-acre fires were reported near Tulsa.
