A new calendar, a chance to start at square (or rectangle) one for cartoonists, whose resolutions may include being kinder, more understanding and less judgmental -- just not while we’re working. Mostly we’ll rededicate ourselves to making ’06 a bang-up year for noisemaking about everybody else’s shortcomings.

Rob Rogers resolves that W will go on a consistent diet and lose the weighty contradictions. Matt Davies knows ex-lobbyist Jack Abramoff won’t quit smoking out co-conspirators, and half of D.C. fears becoming New Year’s toast when the other ball drops. Jim Morin offers Orwellian well-wishing. Only Steve Breen’s hopeful piece shows true goodwill toward all. Steve, it’s a new year ... surely you can strive to reach lower than that.
