Help the homeless by giving to nonprofits

Re “Nathaniel’s case, and ours,” editorial, Jan. 3

The opportunities from the Mental Health Services Act’s dedicated tax funding, and the recent political will demonstrated by the county and city leadership, give great hope that we can make a difference in the lives of homeless people. To assist the professionals who are prepared to provide needed services to this population, the public’s help is critical.

The public must stop enabling homeless people to continue to live on the streets by not giving them money to sustain their lifestyle. The homeless can avoid the very services that can forever change their lives as long as well-intentioned people financially support them. The dollars that these generous people provide should be donated to nonprofits that are equipped to provide services that can move people off the streets and forever change their lives.
