I think not. My blood boils to think that heinous serial killers Randy Steven Kraft and Charles Ng are alive and well years after their richly deserved death sentences were imposed.

Who among this collection of anti-death penalty activists can prove that, since the death penalty was reinstated, an innocent person has been executed? The pending execution of Clarence Ray Allen, as with most of the death row inmate population, has had more than 20 years of appeals already. This is delay enough.

And Allen most illustrates the necessity of a timely death penalty. As he awaited trial for murder, he arranged for three more murders as he sat behind bars. These are calculating, predatory, evil people.

Prisons, as they have become more compassionate toward inmates, also offer an opportunity for such criminals to repeat their crimes, either through parole, escape or supporters on the outside. They are still very dangerous after incarceration. The death penalty isn’t about revenge. It’s about justice and accountability. It recognizes the value of the victims’ lives and assures the public that the most dangerous criminal will never offend again.
