Cinematographers, costume designers list their nominees

AWARDS season heated up further Wednesday as the American Society of Cinematographers and the Costume Designers Guild unveiled their nominations for the best movie work of 2005, with “Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Batman Begins” and “Good Night, and Good Luck” being cited by both groups.

The nominees for the cinematographers’ award were Wally Pfister for “Batman Begins,” Rodrigo Prieto for “Brokeback Mountain,” Robert Elswit for “Good Night, and Good Luck,” Andrew Lesnie for “King Kong” and Dion Beebe for “Memoirs of a Geisha.” The winner will be announced Feb. 26.

The costume designers divided their movie nominations into three categories. Winners will be announced Feb. 25.

Nominees for contemporary film were Michael Kaplan for “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” Paul Simmons for “Hustle & Flow,” Nancy Steiner for “Shop Girl,” Danny Glicker for “Transamerica” and Louise Frogley for “Syriana.”

Frogley also got a nomination in the period film category, for “Good Night, and Good Luck.” Also nominated were Kasia Walicka-Maimone for “Capote,” Colleen Atwood for “Memoirs of a Geisha,” Arianne Phillips for “Walk the Line” and Aggie Guerard Rodgers for “Rent.”

Nominees for fantasy films: Lindy Hemming, “Batman Begins”; Gabriella Pescucci, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”; Isis Mussenden, “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”; Nina Proctor, “Sin City,” and Trisha Biggar, “Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.”
