Beryl M. Danielson, 94; Fundraiser for L.A. Cultural Events

Beryl M. Danielson, a prominent Los Angeles fundraiser for cultural events and hostess for her late husband, Sweden’s Consul General Emeritus Walter G. Danielson, has died. She was 94.

Danielson died Dec. 27 in Los Angeles after a short illness, said her son, John.

She helped found the International Committee of the Southern California Symphony Assn., which supports the Los Angeles Philharmonic Assn.

Interested in promoting international understanding through music, Danielson’s fundraising group is made up of wives of the consular corps. She helped plan its annual International Night at the Symphony for many years.

Danielson also was active in the Muses, founded in 1962 as a support group for the California Museum of Science and Industry, and the Opera Guild of Southern California

As part of her duties in the international community, Danielson entertained wives of visiting ambassadors and other diplomats and played host to parties for visiting royalty, including Princess Christina of Sweden.

Born in Edmonton, Canada, Danielson immigrated to Southern California with her family. She married her husband when he was a Swedish American attorney here. He was later named honorary vice consul and then honorary consul general of Sweden to Los Angeles, taking the title emeritus after 40 years of service.

Widowed in 1999, Danielson is survived by her son; her daughter, Karin Godfrey; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled at noon Jan. 28 in the Little Church of the Flowers at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park, Glendale.
