Olmert Wants to Resume Talks With Palestinians

From Times Wire Reports

Acting Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said he wanted to resume final peace talks with the Palestinians and take harsh action against Jewish squatters in the West Bank.

His first policy statement carries weight because of an assumption that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who remains in a coma after a Jan. 4 stroke, will never return to power.

Olmert reiterated Sharon’s policy that any talks should be based on the “road map” peace plan, which calls for creation of a Palestinian state and outlines steps, so far unrealized, for the two sides to abandon conflict.
