Premier Takes Over for Ailing New Emir

Kuwait’s prime minister, Sheik Sabah al Ahmed al Sabah, agreed to take charge of the country because of the poor health of the newly named emir, state television reported.
In an unprecedented move, a newspaper called for the new emir, Sheik Saad al Abdullah al Sabah, to abdicate in favor of a member of the ruling family.
Sheik Jabbar al Ahmed al Sabah died Sunday.
